PRAYER IS NOT OUR LAST RESORT OUR FIRST RESPONSE

Every January and September, we set aside time to intentionally seek God in prayer and believe for Him to move in powerful ways. Whether you join us in person or online, we would love for you to take part. Check below for specific ways you can participate in this year’s Prayer & Fasting.

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

We will be starting our time of prayer and fasting with an intentional time of worship at our Jennings Campus. We believe this will be a special time for our churches so come expectant.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH

PERSONAL

Spend time in personal prayer for yourself. Communicate the schedule to your family in order to prevent disruptions. Grab your journal, Bible, and some worship music and set aside some time to spend with The Lord this day. We would encourage using the Tabernacle Prayer format. Write in your journal what your needs are, what you are thankful for, and what your experience is. You will want to spend some time every day praying for people in your neighborhood and job in preparation for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

FAMILY

Make a plan and communicate it to the family in advance so that they can all participate. Gather your family, turn off all devices and engage in prayer together. You can use the Tabernacle Prayer format and lead your family through it. Make sure to have your journal, Bible, and some music. Encourage each person to pray no matter their age. Once you’ve spent some quality time in prayer have a conversation about what each person experienced.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11TH

WORK
Now that you have some spiritual momentum and you have been praying for co-workers this week, go to work prayed up and ready to pray for any need that you hear about. If someone shares a need with you ask for permission to pray for them and when given permission lay hands on them and pray with faith for their need. For those who don’t have a full time job we have a plan to team up and pray for some organizations in our community. (City Hall, DA’s office, Police Dept, Fire Dept, Sheriff’s Dept, etc.)

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH

SCHOOL
Our goal for this prayer time is to cover each school in Jeff Davis Parish in prayer. We will appoint leaders at each school in the parish and set a time to start. We would like for each person to go to the closest school to you and join the others in walking the grounds and praying.

Jesus Party – 6:00pm at the OSC Crowley Campus

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH

COMMUNITY
Our goal for this prayer event is to reach out to our neighbors and community to help meet their needs in prayer. We would ask for each of you to join with a few others and make a plan to go door to door in your neighborhood or other neighborhoods to knock on doors and ask what we can pray for. Once we get the need we will then pray for their needs in faith. This is a great time to ask if they are saved and if they aren’t take the moment to introduce them to Jesus. Their will also be some designated locations in the community where we will gather and pray for people. (Walmart, parks, gas stations, etc.)

Pray At Home With Your Family

Why We Pray

The power of prayer deepens our dependence on Him and sharpens our faith. When we pray we choose to put everything in God’s hands knowing that His hand will show up in every aspect of our lives and in those around us.

The act of prayer is what creates our intimacy with God. We can practice the spiritual habit of prayer knowing that our requests go to a God who hears us and who invites us to be intimately involved in His plan. For this reason, we pray in confidence knowing that our prayers are powerful and can bring about change in any circumstance.

There are no levels to this. We all can enter prayer with a posture of trust, openness, and faith, believing that God can do far more than we could even ask or imagine.  It’s not about our circumstance, it’s about our heart stance.

Prayer is our first response. No matter what you’re going through, we want to pray with you! Each and every request has the focus of our Prayer Team.

Why We Fast

The goal of fasting is to draw near to God. It hits the reset button of our soul and renews us from the inside out. Fasting enables us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God. It prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives.

“Fasting helps us to express, to deepen, and to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain the Kingdom of God.” – Scot McKnight.

When deciding on a fast, we encourage you to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

Complete Fast

In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Selective Fast

This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast

This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Soul Fast

This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
